Top 10 Most Popular Artist of 2018

As requested by many, our team at RhymeSource has finally put together a list of the top 10 artist in 2018. Although there are still unreleased projects by many other artist, this list takes that into consideration. Based off social following, music streams, and all around clout, here is out list of this years most popular artist. **There is no particular order to the list**.

  1. Drake. Well obviously, there should be no argument here. As he has absolutely destroyed his competition. With his album ‘Scorpion’ he’s become the first artist EVER to reach 1 Billion (!) streams in one week. On July 9th, The Billboard hot 100 came out, and of course, the 6 god rapper had SEVEN songs in the top 10.
  2. 6ix9ine. He’s got a lot of haters, but as we’ve heard, haters are just fans in denial. His latest hit single ‘FEFE’ ft Nicki Minaj, has jumped all the way up to #4 on the Hot 100! That makes him 8 for 8 on the billboard. He might be a pain in the ass, or the most annoying guy you’ve seen on Instagram. But he is releasing hit after hit. Let’s not hate on success here.
  3. Lil Uzi. Sure we haven’t heard of a new banger from Uzi, but with the hype of his newly anticipated album ‘Eternal Atake’ I feel its right to list him up here. Uzi has made a HUGE fan base for himself, and rightfully so. Any song he makes or feature in seems to be a huge hit. He’s quietly been releasing some decent features like “223” with Gunna. Nothing that has been Uzi-level, but he definitely has something cooked up for us. We’re very excited for his upcoming album!
  4. Travis Scott. I think the ENTIRE world was waiting for ‘ASTROWORLD’. We’ve been seeing a ton of Travis heads pop up around the country. And then BOOM we finally got it. Travis has had some very popular features this summer, but he came out strong with his recently album. He currently has 6 of the top 10 streaming songs in hip-hop right now and every other song is in the top 25. There’s no denying the popularity of Travis especially with Team Kylie on his side.
  5. Cardi B. To be honest, Cardi B had a hell of a 2018. After the release of ‘Invasion of Privacy’ she lived on the billboards. In facts, months later “I Like It” still remains in the top 10. Currently she has 6 platinum records and 4 more gold ones. For only a year in the game…. that’s pretty damn good. Plus she has over 30 million followers and over 2 billion streams. Realistically the only competition Nicki had in years.
  6. Lil Skies. To me, he came out of nowhere! He released two singles ‘Nowadays’ & ‘Red Roses’ both featuring Landon Cube. And they TOOK OFF. Both peaking at #55 & #69 respectively on the Top 100. He released his album ‘Life of A Dark Rose’ which has been a smash hit. Skies has been tearing it up lately with the features, recently getting on Wiz Khalifa’s song ‘Fr Fr’. He’s been getting more and more attention as the year carries on and continues to build up his numbers all around. Still new to the game, his popularity is rising more and more everyday.
  7. Post Malone. Now this guy knows how to make a good song. All 18 of his songs off ‘Beerbongs & Bentleys’ made it to the Billboard top 100, and 9 songs making the top 20, shattering the previous record held by the Beatles who had 6 songs in the top 20. (this record being beaten by drake with his 7 songs in the top 10). His smash hit ‘Psycho’ reached #1 on the top 100. ‘Beerbongs & Bentleys’ is now certified X2 platinum.
  8. Juice WRLD. Another guy who really burst onto the scene. With his smash hit ‘Lucid Dreams’ which has peaked at #3 on the top 100. Juice Wrld comes straight out of Chicago and is really in his own lane as far as genre goes. His album “Goodbye & Good Riddance” was too good for Interscope to pass up on. Signing him to their roster for $3Million ! His latest single ‘Wasted’ features Lil Uzi has actually popped up at #68 on the top 100. I feel like this is just the beginning for this promising young artist.  With only one album in, he has amassed over a billion streams (all platforms) became easily one of the biggest artists this year.
  9. Chance the Rapper. We’ve been teased a lot from chance, as we desperately wait for him to drop his album. Instead of an album we got a couple of songs from him instead, ‘I Might Need Security’, ‘Work Out’, ‘65th& Ingleside’, and ‘Wala Cam’. Out of these new songs, I Might Need security and Work Out are the best. Chance is a great artist, but an even better person. As he’s done a ton for his community, Chicago. He also just got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Kirsten! #BlackExcellence.
  10. Nicki Minaj. I’ve always been a fan of Nicki. So when I heard ‘Chun Li’ I was extremely happy to hear the queen finally speak on some of the rumors and beefs swirling around her. It also peaked #10, being her first solo hot 100 top 10 since ‘Anaconda’ in 2014. She leads the female rappers with 16 top 10 songs on the top 100. She’s been very busy recently, jumping on the Boo’d up remix with Quavo, and also helping 6ix9ine out on his hit single ‘FEFE’. Her recent album ‘Queen’ is on pace to do 150,000 sales in week one.
